Instantly recognizable as an Irish Celtic symbol, the three interlinked leaf-like shapes of the Trinity Knot are often interwoven within a circle to create a complex knot, one that cannot be untied.
While the true meaning of the Celtic Trinity Knot is up for debate, we can be sure this symbol was held in high regard by ancient Celts. Engraved on many ancient Celtic stone monuments still standing today and adorning the 8th Century Ardagh Chalice and Tara Brooch. It’s speculated that the Irish Knot draws on the Celtic significance of earth, sea & sky or may have links to the Lunar or Solar phases. Often seen on the Celtic Cross, it's also long believed to have represented the Holy Trinity for Celtic Christians.
Whatever our interpretation, the beauty of this ancient symbol has survived the test of time and continues to be used to this day by Irish craftspeople to create Celtic jewelry including pendants, bracelets, wedding bands, rings and earrings.
