The Claddagh Ring

Renowned worldwide for its Irish heritage and beauty, the Claddagh Ring takes its name from a fishing village just outside the ancient city walls of Galway in the West of Ireland. The Gaelic An Cladach means ‘the shore’ and it was here that the first Claddagh Ring originated in the 17^th Century.

A symbol of love (heart), friendship (hands) and loyalty (crown), this ring has for generations been given as a friendship or promise ring. The Claddagh Ring was traditionally a gift from mothers to daughters and is worn with the heart facing out by those who are single or with the heart facing the palm to show your heart is taken.

Today the Claddagh Ring is crafted by Irish jewellers into much loved rings, necklaces, bracelets, earrings and brooches in gold, rose gold and silver.

It continues to be worn as a symbol of love and friendship.
