The origin of the Celtic Cross goes back to Ireland’s patron saint, St. Patrick, who is said to have blessed a pagan stone bearing the circular symbol of the moon goddess, with a Latin Christian cross. The Celtic Cross went on to be widely used across Ireland and can still be seen at heritage sites engraved in stone, or on Celtic jewelry, often embellished with many other Celtic symbols including the Triskele and Trinity Knot.
The Celtic Cross has endured to this day and is much loved worldwide for its ornate design, worn as a symbol of Ireland and for its links with Irish heritage.
